Professionally
After spending four years in Madrid studying Audiovisual Communication and doing an internship at a production company, in 2019 I wanted to return to my hometown, Alicante, where you can walk almost everywhere and be close to the sea.
I started at Human Level managing our social media profiles, covering our participation in events on the blog, and recording videos for the YouTube channel. As I’m quite restless, I gradually got involved in other projects. With the pandemic, the team stopped working in the office and we had to quickly transform ourselves into a company capable of collaborating remotely. That’s when I started creating our virtual workspaces in Notion, optimizing them thanks to feedback from the team and proposing initiatives that would help us coordinate. This process led me to talk to different departments (HR, Administration, Systems, Sales, Operations, etc.) and to better understand how we function as a company.
Now I try to contribute my vision to the internal management team so that we are all aligned, and I continue to work on Human Level’s brand positioning to show the world who we are.
On a personal level
Despite working in the digital marketing sector, I am quite critical of technology, especially Big Tech companies. I would like us to be able to imagine other types of online ecosystems that truly put people at the center.
The internet had revolutionary potential, but power has ended up concentrated in a handful of companies that dictate what we see and what we don’t. However, I don’t think the internet itself is the problem. Thanks to the internet, projects such as Wikipedia exist, where millions of users collaborate selflessly to create the world’s encyclopedia. It is a living example of the great things we could achieve.
It may seem hypocritical of me to work in a sector so closely related to Big Tech, but I believe it is precisely this experience that allows me to understand them well. If you want to learn more about the inner workings of the internet, I recommend Internet for the People by Ben Tarnoff and The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshana Zuboff.
